Showcase the accomplishments of innovative CDFIs

The Wells Fargo NEXT Awards for Opportunity Finance recognize innovation within the CDFI industry (Community Development Financial Institutions) and the outstanding performance achieved through investments made in underserved communities across the United States. The team behind the NEXT Awards at Opportunity Finance Network wanted to create a simple, elegant, and inspirational new website experience.

The Solution:

Integrate technology and design to streamline the user experience

Garfield was asked to bring the NEXT Awards theme, “Expanding Coverage” to life using crisp messaging and beautiful design. This connected visitors to the inspiration, innovation, and impact of the Opportunity Finance industry. We told complex stories by featuring videos throughout the site, making an important emotional connection with each visitor.

  • Organization and intuitive architecture:

    A new site architecture allows visitors to easily engage with the videos and stories that bring the site to life.

  • Instant access:

    Quick links provide users with instant access to the most important content—directly from the homepage.

  • An inspired aesthetic:

    A clean, unobtrusive design lets visitors instantly understand the innovation and impact of the Opportunity Finance movement.

  • Managing years of video content:

    Awardee videos are sorted by year, and roll-over thumbnail descriptions provide an overview for each video.

  • Modular and scalable:

    Timely promotions can be turned on and off through the CMS, allowing the brand team to make time sensitive updates quickly and efficiently, without requiring any knowledge of underlying code.

  • Custom Drupal build profile:

    A custom set of scripts formed the underlying CMS framework, helping our team launch on an aggressive timeline.

  • Enhanced Google analytics:

    Adding Event Tracking to all site tabs provides a clear picture of what content is being viewed, allowing the team to tailor content to best engage visitors.

The site was launched at the 2012 OFN Conference. The refined user experience and visual aesthetic proudly introduced visitors to the 2012 Awardees, celebrated the heritage of winners in years past, and motivated CDFIs from around the country to become inspired by the incredible work being done in this dynamic industry.
