The Challenge:

Raise Money for Habitat for Humanity

Each holiday season, we host a fundraiser to help raise money and awareness for a local charity. This year we chose to work with Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County, PA, and we challenged ourselves to attract even more attention with a non-traditional angle and campaign that would create interest while encouraging others to donate to, learn about, and participate in our cause. Check out the video below to learn more about the challenge:

The Solution:

Unbeknownst to most of us and our clients, Larry Garfield - our leader and president - lacks handiness when it comes to power tools or construction… let’s just say he tends to be a bit “accident-prone.” With the knowledge that working with Habitat for Humanity requires volunteers to transform into construction workers for a day - power tools and all - Larry became the foundation of our concept. In sum: Please, Please, Please, Keep Larry Away From the Power Tools.

Instead of allowing Larry to wield a circular saw or sledge hammer, we gave him four alternate, safe activities to participate in during our on-site volunteering. We also extended the efforts to our website where we created and promoted a landing page on which visitors could vote for their favorite Larry-safe activity while earning the chance to donate to Habitat for Humanity. We kept the options entertaining and fun with activities ranging from playing with puppies to competing in a Lego-building race. The votes poured in, generating a lot of buzz and, more importantly, donations. The winning activity? Well, you’ll have to watch the final video to find out:
