Helping Philabundance Fight Hunger — One Can at a Time
According to Feeding America, there are 1.8 million suffering from hunger each day in Pennsylvania and about 562,000 of those people are children. In Philadelphia alone, 1 in 4 residents are at risk for hunger, more than double the rates reported at both the national and Pennsylvania state level.
While it’s already a challenge for many to get food on the table every day, the recent cuts to SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) have made it even more difficult.
So when we heard that the Philadelphia Business Journal and Sun Federal Credit Union partnered to host a food drive benefiting Philadelphia’s largest hunger relief organization, Philabundance, we jumped at the chance to support the effort.
So, in the name of food and goodwill, we took a trip to a local wholesale grocery store and picked up 150 lbs. of non-perishable goods. We then drove into Center City and marched our donation down Broad St. and dropped it into the eager hands of the drive’s volunteers.
With a goal to raise 50 lbs. of food in an hour and a half, our 150 lbs. donation really excited the hosts. We were so happy to help them in their endeavor that the free copy of the PBJ and soft pretzel they gave us were just icing on the cake.
If you are interested in contributing to the fight against hunger we encourage you to visit Philabundance to learn more about their organization and how you can help.
