Helping FOX 29, the United Way and Cradles to Crayons “Stuff-the-Bus” for Local Kids in Need
Every year our local FOX station (WTFX-TV, FOX 29) hosts a Backpack-A-Thon in an effort to help local kids in need start their school year off the way they should— with confidence, open minds and backpacks filled with school supplies.
This year, FOX 29 partnered with the United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey and Cradles to Crayons with the goal of gathering enough supplies to fill 22,000 backpacks.
Understanding that parents from economically-challenged backgrounds often find it hard to provide their children with even the most basic of school supplies, we couldn’t think of a better cause to put ourselves behind and support.
We quickly headed to the nearest school supply store in town – grabbed as much as we could – and went downtown to the FOX 29 station to lend a hand in stuffing the bus.
There was a great turnout of local support and Good Day Philadelphia’s Quincy Harris was on hand to live broadcast from the event. Even though it was an early Friday morning, Garfielders Angie Kostreva and Cassie Grob got the chance to share (on live TV!) what the Garfield team had brought down to help reach the Backpack-A-Thon goal.
With the 2014 school year fast approaching, we encourage you to donate to the local Philadelphia Backpack-A-Thon run by the United Way and Cradles to Crayons.
